Frances Singleton Myrick's Obituary
Mrs. Frances Singleton Myrick was born on May 7, 1918 in Harrisburg, AR to David and Cora Singleton and died peacefully June 20, 2021.
She accepted Christ as her personal Savior as a teenager and remained a devout Christian her whole life.
After graduating from high school in Harrisburg, she attended Capital Business College in Little Rock. Mrs. Myrick then returned to Harrisburg to care for her ailing mother and grandmother. During this time, she was proud to be Secretary to the County School Superintendent. She also worked as a Deputy Circuit Clerk and then as the Deputy County Clerk for Poinsett County.
In 1942, she moved to Memphis, TN where she met and then married Hugh Oliver Myrick in 1946. From that union, they were blessed with their darling daughter, Susan.
From 1967 until her retirement in 1983, Mrs. Myrick was the Administrative Director for Youth Service in Memphis, TN and worked closely with Director Rev. Donald E. Mowery. It was during this time that Frances honed her passion for aiding others with creative and caring strategies for all who needed help. She held those hands all the way to the end of the path, where so very many found success and true happiness. A great deal of the men and women who were able to follow that path stayed in touch for decades, if not their entire lives.
In her later years, she found a spiritual home in Second Presbyterian Church. Some of the different activities she enjoyed were going out for lunches, classes, and social visits with the various women's groups including the Mary and Martha Circle and her favorite, The Walk Bible class. When she was no longer able to attend in person, 2nd Pres. came to her by bringing classes and worship, communion, and weekly audio discs with sermons and her classes. There is simply no amount of emphasis to ever describe her absolute joy to not be left out and her gratitude for the many people that made this happen.
Mrs. Myrick is preceded in death by her parents David Ashley Singleton and Cora Frances Singleton, her sister Grace Richardson, brother David “Bo” Singleton Jr., her devoted and beloved husband Hugh O. Myrick, her daughter Susan A. Broglen, nephew Robert Singleton, and her very dear niece Billie Boyd.
Left to cherish her memory are grandsons Hugh Richard Miller (Hallie) and Oliver Randall Broglen, as well as her great-grandson Peyton Broglen and many extended family members. She also will be missed by a great many friends and loved ones, especially by Hallie's family, the Williamsons, who "adopted" her as their matriarch. She was very close to Bob and Helen (Hallie's parents), their children Matt, Becky, and Shely, as well as Shely's children Joseph, Jeremy, and Jaclyn. We all called her Nana and loved her very, very much. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, July 1 from 1:00 pm until the time of the funeral service at 2:30pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis. The burial will immediately follow.
