Forrest White's Obituary
On May 2, 2013, Lester Forrest White, 88, died peacefully at Kirby Pines Retirement Center. Forrest was born, July 13, 1924 at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee to L.P. and Josephine Owen White. He is preceded in death by his wife, Alyene on March 9, 2013 and a sister Jean White Hill. He and Alyene were married for 64 years. Forrest lived all of his life in Memphis. He graduated from Treadwell High School and attended the University of Tennessee (Go Vols!) where he obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He worked for Memphis Light Gas and Water for 24 years. He worked for the City of Memphis and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for more than 10 years following his retirement from MLG&W. He was deeply involved in the Engineers Club of Memphis and the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers. He enjoyed golf, travel, playing bridge and rummy and spectating his beloved Volunteers. He and Alyene were long time members of Eudora Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Forrest is survived by two sons, Barry and wife Jan of Memphis and Warren and wife Vickie of Houston, Texas. He leaves behind three grandchildren, Rebecca Waite and husband Ryan of Connecticut, Taylor White and wife Whitney of North Carolina and Carrie Zwerneman and husband John of Texas. He also leaves a nephew, Marty Hill and wife Jan of North Carolina and a niece, Barbara Thomas and husband Steve of Texas. He is also survived by a cousin, Peggy Peel West and cousin-in-law, Helen Laster Cannon both of Memphis and a host of friends. The family would like to thank the staff of Kirby Pines and Crossroads Hospice for their care and concern. A visitation will be held Saturday, May 11 from 1-3 pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home located at 5668 Poplar Ave. A graveside service will be held immediately following.
