Fay E. Schlotfeldt's Obituary
Fay Ernest Schlotfeldt, 84, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2015 in Germantown, Tennessee following a brief illness. He was born July 31, 1931 in Tipton Iowa to Selma & Ernest Schlotfeldt. Mr. Schlotfeldt was raised in Davenport, Iowa, later moving to Des Moines, Iowa where he graduated from high school in West Des Moines. Following graduation he attended State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Mr. Schlotfeldt enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951during the Korean War, where he was a Flight Chief based at the Lackland AFB in San Antonio Texas and O’Hare Airfield, in Chicago for four years. After serving in the Air Force, he was employed by Northwestern Bell for 36 years, beginning in Des Moines, Iowa and later in Omaha, Nebraska as a District Staff Manager with Bell Marketing System (BMS) Operations. He met his wife, Janice E. Johnson in Des Moines, Iowa in 1957 and they were married July 12, 1959 at First Methodist Church in Des Moines, Iowa. Following retirement the couple moved to Rio Verde, Arizona where they resided for 25 years prior to moving to Kirby Pines Estates in Memphis, Tennessee. Fay was an avid golfer, was multi-talented, and easily made friends wherever he went. He was an accomplished artist in oils, played the organ, enjoyed camping and fishing with friends, and had a great interest in genealogy, tracing his family tree back to the year 1460 in Germany and helping other Schlotfeldt family members find their family roots. As a result he has a beloved family around the world who are in communication with each other. He had a brilliant mind and there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do when he put his mind to it. Mr. Schlotfeldt was preceded in death by his parents, his stepbrother Robert, and sister-in-law Jean Oliver. He is survived by his widow of 56 years, Janice; a brother-in-law, Paul (Joan) Johnson of Murray Iowa; niece, Janet (Mike) Adair of Memphis, TN, nephews, Joel (Lila) Johnson of Norwalk, Iowa; Mark (Kathleen) Johnson of Murray, IA; Jay Johnson of Murray, Iowa; and grand nieces, Rachel Adair of Lille, France, and Stephanie Adair of St. Petersburg, Florida; grand nephew, Brandon Johnson & grand niece, Ashleigh Motzko, both of Des Moines, Iowa, and many close friends. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 1:15 pm at West Tennessee Veteran‘s Cemetery, 4000 Forrest Hill Irene Road, Memphis, Tennessee. Arrangements are under the care of Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis, TN Donations in Mr. Schlotfeldt’s memory may be sent to a charity of your choice.
