Everett Leon Hurt's Obituary
Everett Leon Hurt currently of Los Lunas, New Mexico died unexpectedly in his sleep a week ago at the age of 68. He was born on September 14, 1954 in Memphis, TN to the late Pat and Leon Hurt. He is survived by three sisters, Patsy Hurt Aune (Tom) of Lewes, DE, Marie Snyder of Chesapeake, VA and Nancy Heideman (Richard) of Albuquerque, New Mexico as well as his nieces Jessica Aune, Megan Moore, Anna Moneymaker and his nephew Zach Aune. He was preceded in death by his brother John Joseph Hurt, as well as grandparents John Joseph and Geraldine Phillips and Dink and Marie Hurt
He is known by his nickname of Dink by his family, childhood neighbors and devoted nieces and his nephew. It is however a privilege he did not share with friends made during adulthood. These friends knew him as Leon. No matter what you called him, you knew of his sharp and quick wittedness, his tenacious devotion to Notre Dame football and University of Memphis basketball. If you were lucky enough to receive letters from him you laughed for days at the thought of it. He was a man of hard work, fairness and devotion to his family. He learned from his Dad a High school principle with the Memphis City schools the importance of treating everyone you come into intact with in the workplace with respect and dignity. He made his Dad proud. He loved music, history, old westerns on TV and the Memphis Greenway. He had a fleet of bikes worthy of the Tour de France.
He graduated from Catholic High School and the University of Memphis with a degree in Accounting. He was a Certified Public accountant and a supervisor in the auditing department of Memphis Light Gas and Water prior to his retirement as well as the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
Visitation and funeral services for Dink will be at Memphis, Tennessee. Visitation is on Sunday April 30 from 3 to 5 pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery 5668 Poplar Ave. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Michaels’s Catholic Church Monday May 1 at 10:00 am. Friends are invited to join the family at Pete and Sam’s Italian Restaurant on Park Ave.
