Evelyn Scott Vowell's Obituary
Evelyn Scott Vowell, born August 15, 1929, died peacefully on June 6, 2022 while surrounded by her immediate family.
Evelyn was born in Atlanta Georgia and was the only child of the late Lewis Robert Scott and Mary Inez Dickey.
Evelyn attended Atlanta Public Schools and was a subsequent graduate of the Crawford W. Long School of Nursing in 1947.
In 1960, Evelyn and her then husband, Byron Vowell Jr moved to Memphis, Tennessee along with their son Byron “Chip” Vowell III where she continued her nursing career.
Evelyn enjoyed a 50-year carrier in the nursing field before retiring in 1997.
Evelyn was a member of Mullins United Methodist Church.
Evelyn enjoyed traveling, camping, stamp and coin collecting and regularly volunteered her time for various local charitable organizations and Mullins Methodist Church. Evelyn provided support and was very active with Boy Scout Troop 75.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Robert Scott, Mary Inez Dickey and her oldest son, Byron “Chip” Vowell III.
Evelyn is survived by her two sons, Scott Vowell (Sherry) of Collierville, Tennessee and Stewart Vowell of Germantown, Tennessee. Evelyn was blessed with two grandchildren, Brandon Vowell (Karlie) of Seneca, Illinois and Davis Vowell of Memphis, Tennessee and one great granddaughter Dannie Vowell also of Seneca, Illinois.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Thursday June from 12:00 until 1:00 with a graveside service immediately following at 1:00.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Evelyn’s honor be sent to Boy Scout Troop 75 c/o Mullins United Methodist Church or the Ronald McDonald House of Memphis.
