Evelyn S. Morrison's Obituary
Evelyn S. Morrison, 92, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
She was raised in Dyess, Arkansas. She graduated Salutatorian and class beauty. After high school she moved to Memphis, Tennessee for a clerical job and attended Bellevue Baptist Church where she met and married the love of her life, Hugh Morrison. They had 3 daughters and were faithful members of Eudora Baptist Church. Later they became members of Kirby Woods Baptist Church.
When she was 38, she graduated from Memphis State University with high honors in Mathematics and a minor in Biology. She went on to receive her Master's degree as well. She loved teaching Algebra at Germantown High School where she went the extra mile helping students attain the success each sought and left so many with fond memories of their favorite math teacher. She continued to tutor students in her home after she retired from Germantown High School. The only thing she loved more than teaching was her family! Her husband Hugh was her sweetheart and best friend; she doted on her 3 daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved going to church, attending Bible studies, reading, cooking, and helping Hugh with their horses. Evelyn loved the Lord and had an infectious smile that anyone who knew her would remember always.
Evelyn is survived by her three daughters: Barbara Hodgin (Stanley) of Mount Juliet, TN; Brenda Dowdy (Bob) of Foley, AL; and Peggy George (David) of Maryville, TN. She also leaves her brother Billy Shaddix (Bernice) of Atoka, TN; Her 7 grandchildren: Derik Hodgin (Audry), James Dowdy (Tabatha Peña Riquelme), Tim Dowdy (Abbey Clark), Stephanie Allen (Jake), Jamie Willoughby (Waylon), Michael George (Elizabeth), and Mark George (Ariel Ritter). Nine great grandchildren: CarrieAnn, AddieMae, and EvieJames Hodgin; Roman Allen, Cade, MacKenzie, and Colton Willoughby; Athena and Ahsoka George; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Hugh D. Morrison; her parents, Zeb and Melvie Shaddix; her sisters Arlene Criswell, Lynda Smith, Lafaye McGee; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Charles and Mary Nelle Morrison, Kathryn Brooks, Forest Smith, and Doug McGee.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Kirby Woods Baptist Church, 6325 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119, Alzheimer’s Foundation, or Gideons International.
There will be a funeral service for Evelyn on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at 1:00p.m. in the Fireside Chapel at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family will receive friends and family for visitation for one hour prior to the service from 12:00p.m. to 1:00p.m. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
