Evelyn Elaine "Deedee" Irvin Springer's Obituary
Evelyn Elaine (Deedee) Irvin Springer passed away on September 30, 2022 in her home surrounded by loved ones.
Deedee, as she was affectionately known by her friends and family, was born in Memphis, TN on February 13, 1933 to Thomas and Mildred Irvin. She graduated in 1951 with honors from Central High School and the same year married the love of her life, Clyde Springer. For several years she worked alongside her husband and brother-in-law, James Watson, when they opened Armstrong Relocation in 1957. As a member of the Whitehaven Jaycettes, she helped produce the Whitehaven Junior Miss Pageant. Deedee was a devoted Christian and a member of Compassion Church Germantown, where she served in many roles including Sunday School teacher, choir member, Women’s Ministries Director, Bible Study Teacher, and Prayer Ministry volunteer. She also served on the Board of Southwestern Christian University and on the Home and Family Life Council of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church. As an avid supporter of many IPHC ministries, she helped promote World Missions, Hope4Sudan, The Awakening, and the Hope Center. Another of her greatest passions was the University of Memphis Tigers, whom she supported all her adult life, traveling with the basketball team to most away games and enthusiastically waving her pompom on the front row when they played at home. For many of her later years she was warmly referred to as “Grandma” by the team and was even honored by the U of M Athletic Department as the “#1 Tiger Fan.”
Deedee was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sisters Joy Watson and Carolyn Irvin.
She is survived by her sister, Pat Almond; two daughters, Karen Fields Isaacman (Ken) and Lauren Pickens; and four grandchildren, Allison Fields, Clint Fields, Mark Pickens, Jr. (Elizabeth) and Jessica Barroso (Max). She also leaves five great grandchildren (Tyler, Simon, Noah, Abigail & Lucas) three step grandchildren; Phillip Isaacman, Lauren Darga, Leslie Yohey and their families, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers who took special care of her in recent times: Petrey Mack, Linda Baraka, Christy Cannon, Jean Winters, Stella Lovelady, Ray Seaberry, and Camisha Wiseman.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Deedee’s memory to Hope4Sudan, The Awakening, University of Memphis Athletics, or a charity of your choice.
