Eva Drucilla "Dru" Purdy's Obituary
Eva Drucilla “Dru” Purdy, 84, died Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Emeritus-Summerville Assisted Care Living and Memory Care in Houston, Texas. Born to Collins Archer Oakley and Emily Woods Oakley in Fordyce, Arkansas, she lived many years in Memphis until moving to Houston to be with her daughter and family in 2000. Dru worked for Goldsmith’s Department Store, UNARCO Manufacturing, Midco Machinery, and retired in July, 2000 from Forest Hill Funeral Home. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Loyd Purdy, brother Jack Gill, Jeff Gill, and Gerald Oakley. She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Schrodi and husband Joe Schrodi; grandsons Joseph Schrodi, IV and Jason Schrodi; twin great-grandchildren Kyra Elizabeth Schrodi and Joseph “Quint” Schrodi, V all of Houston; brother James Oakley and wife Helen of Bradenton, Florida; nephews Collins Oakley and wife Susan of Houston; Vaughn Oakley and wife Barbara of Hendersonville, TN and Fred Gill and wife Charlotte of Hot Springs, Arkansas and many dear friends. She was a long-time member of Grace United Methodist Church and Colonial Park United Methodist Church while living in Memphis. Dru was a member of Clear Lake United Methodist Church and active in the 55 or Better Group. The family will receive friends for a visitation Wednesday, December 30, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Park on Poplar Ave. Funeral Services and burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Park with Rev. Bill Gaddie and Rev. Dennis Neenan presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in her name to Clear Lake United Methodist Church 16335 El Camino Real Houston, TX 77062 or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
