Dr. Eugene Eaton McKenzie's Obituary
Dr. Eugene Eaton McKenzie Jr., born on January 25, 1936, to Eugene and Emma McKenzie in Memphis, Tennessee, passed away leaving a legacy of service and dedication. Dr. McKenzie was a beloved physician who served the Memphis community for 53 years, touching countless lives with his care and compassion.
Beyond his medical career, Eugene was deeply involved in his community. He was a dedicated scoutmaster for 30 years with Troop 30 out of Whitehaven, Tennessee, and Troop 346, guiding and mentoring young scouts. His love for music was evident as a member of the Memphis Wind Symphony for 31 years, where he played the flute. Eugene was also an active horticulturalist, nurturing his passion for plants and gardening.
Eugene was preceded in death by his wife Anna Gwynne Salmon McKenzie, parents, Eugene and Emma McKenzie and grandson Drew Michael Atkin. He is survived by his son, David E. McKenzie (Wendy Wan-Hsuan Chou) of Huntsville, Alabama; his daughters, Susan Lynne McKenzie of Phoenix, Arizona, and Sharon Evrard of Memphis, Tennessee; his sister, Mary Grace Faires of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and one grandchild, Xaviara Amber Atkin.
A service to celebrate Eugene’s life will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Memphis First United Methodist Church, 204 N. Second St, Memphis, TN 38105, with a visitation beginning at 1:00 PM.
Dr. McKenzie’s legacy of service, music, and community involvement will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
