Eugene Beatty's Obituary
Gene Beatty passed away April 26, 2018. He was born December 26, 1935 in Indiana, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sara Gibson Beatty and Eugene F. Beatty. Gene was married to the love of his life, Joan Wetherell Beatty for almost 52 years. He is survived by his brother, Gerald Beatty (Ruth) and numerous nieces and nephews. He had a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Tri-State College and a Master of Science degree in Management from Florida State University. He served in the U.S. Army. He began his career with the State of Illinois Bridge Department designing bridges. In 1964, Gene joined Chrysler Space Division where he developed critical ground support equipment at Cape Canaveral Launch Complex for the Saturn 1-B project. Gene designed the rocket’s exit hatch for that mission. In 1967, Gene worked for Chrysler Realty where he developed more than 100 stores. He worked for Chrysler for 37 years. Gene was an avid tennis player and traveler, and he never met a dog he didn’t want to pet. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 5 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 6865 Poplar Pike, Memphis, TN 38119.
