Esther Stuart Scott's Obituary
Surrounded by her family, Esther Stuart Scott of Collierville, TN went home to be with the Lord on June 30, 2016. Along with her three brothers and one sister, Esther was born and raised in Memphis, TN and attended Memphis Public Schools; including Vollentine Elementary, Snowden Junior High and Tech High School. She spent several summers during high school at Young Life ranches in Colorado and was baptized and attended Bellevue Baptist Church for many years. More recently, she was a member of Germantown Baptist Church. Esther attended Memphis State University (now the University of Memphis) where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi (Adelphean) sorority. Esther’s career included positions at The City of Memphis and Shulton, Inc. before she settled into her 30+ year career at W.R. Grace. In her free time Esther served as a Board member of the Executive Committee for the Memphis/Shelby County CrimeStoppers and was active in Tech High alumni Get-Togethers where she was able to enjoy time with life-long friends. She loved to travel, explore new places and create new adventures – whether for her job or with her son, grandchildren, parents, siblings, family and/or good friends. Esther is preceded in death by her parents, Carlin O. and Annie Mae Denton Stuart and two brothers, Carlin Denton Stuart and William Donald (Don) Stuart, all longtime residents of Memphis. She is survived by her son, Charles E. (Chuck) Scott of Louisville, KY, four grandchildren – Charlie Scott (Mary Kathleen), Margie Cresswell (Jesse), Katie Scott, Brooke Scott and five great-grandchildren – Emma, Aiden, Caroline, Ella and Henry. She is also survived by a brother and sister, Herbert Stuart of Franklin, TN and Mary Ann Stuart Sherman (Odom) of Dallas, TX as well as nine nieces and nephews and many good friends. Esther loved her family and friends dearly and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. A visitation will be held Tuesday, July 5, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The funeral service will be 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 5, both at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family would like to thank the staff at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House and The West Clinic for the tremendous amount of care provided to Esther as well as the many friends and neighbors who showered her with their love, attention and affection.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar, Memphis, TN 38119. “Celebrating Life…..Behind the Stone Wall”.
