Ernest Victor "Skip" Moore, Jr.'s Obituary
“Mr. Ernest Victor “Skip” Moore Junior, Commander, USNR Retired, stood his final watch and was relieved just after 16:30 on November 7th, 2017. Skip Moore is a Memphis native, who attended elementary school at the old St. Thomas Parish in South Memphis, is a member of the Christian Brothers High School Class of ’44, and holds an Associate’s Degree in Business from Christian Brothers College. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy upon graduation from CBHS and served as a coxswain in the Pacific during World War II, seeing action in the Iwo Jima and Okinawa campaigns. Remaining in the Naval Reserve after mustering out, he was commissioned as a Navy officer in time for further service in the Korean War. After the end of the Korean War, Skip Moore remained in the Naval Reserve for over 20 years, retiring as a full Commander. It was during his Korean War service that he married Dorothy Hayes on January 1st, 1953, and they remained married for almost 65 years, until his passing. Throughout his long lifetime, Skip Moore has been a devout Catholic, and his faith, his family, and his country are the things that have always mattered most and that he prized most highly. He has been, over the years, an active Knight of Columbus, and swimming, skating, bowling, photography, genealogy and reading, are among his many activities and interests. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his sons Skip, Bob, and David, his brother Bob and sister Agnes, his grandchildren Andrew, Ben, Bekah and Elizabeth, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Whether one knew him as Skip, Dad, Granddaddy, Uncle Skip, Mr. Skip or some other appellation, E.V. “Skip” Moore Jr. is a gentleman and man who will be remembered long and loved and missed always by his family and friends.”The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 11 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. with the service to follow immediately at 1:00 p.m. All services will be held at Memorial Park.
