Ernest Hinton Sigman, Jr., 86, passed away February 2, 2009.Visitation will be today, February 7th at 2:00 PM, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with services following at 3:00 PM.Dr. Sigman graduated from Memphis Technical High School in 1940. He attended Memphis State College and graduated from the University of Tennessee Dental School, Memphis, TN in 1945. He served as a Captain in the Army Dental Corp completing a tour of duty in Korea. He practiced general dentistry for 55 years. He was a past president of the Memphis Dental Society, and was a member of the American Dental Association, Tennessee Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, the American Endodontic Society, Pierre Fauchard Academy, the Dental Legion and the Shelby County Study Club. Over the years he received many distinguished honors and awards including the Humanitarian Award presented by the Memphis Dental Society and Fellowship in the American College of Dentistry. He was a 32◦ Mason, a member of Al Chymia Shrine Temple and had been active in the Shrine Chanters. He was a member of Galloway United Methodist Church for 82 years and more recently a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. While at Galloway, he was honored as a 60-year choir member and served the church in various capacities. He was on the Board of Directors of the Wesley Foundation.He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris Wood Sigman, two sons, Dennis A. (Linda) Sigman of Columbia, TN and Ronald W. (Debbie) Sigman of Clinton, MS, five grandchildren, Allison (Keith) Jackson of Knoxville, TN, Stephen Sigman and Bradley Sigman of Columbia, TN, Ashley Sigman and Ben Sigman of Clinton, MS.Memorials may be made to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, or the Memphis Dental Society.
