Ernest Miller's Obituary
Ernest W. Miller, 82, died at his Memphis home on November 11, 2012. “Ernie” was born in Oak Park, Illinois on December 20, 1929. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served in the Korean War as a medical corpsman attached to the U.S. Marines Corps infantry. Following his military service he became a mechanical engineer, specializing in the design, installation, and maintenance of commercial printing presses. Accomplished and respected in this field, his distinguished career with the Rockwell Corporation spanned 35 years. He was an enthusiastic traveler and, with his wife Joyce, visited venues the world over. Known as a man with magic in his hands, Ernie excelled at oil painting, wood carving, and wood working of all kinds, including cabinetry. Also gifted with an artist’s eye and a “green thumb” he was a trained master gardener. He was a faithful member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, and has left the church and its school a legacy of attractive improvements to the church and school properties and furnishings. Ernie is survived by Joyce, his wife of nearly 60 years; son, Dr. Tom Miller, D.D.S. and his wife, Lori, of Ottawa, IL; grandchildren; Alex, Tommy, Jack, and lily Miller; daughter, Cynthia Buss, and her husband Tom of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Dr. Nicholas Buss, M.D., and his wife Jen, of Lebanon, NH; Amanda Buss, of Memphis, TN; daughter, Linda Emery and her husband, Patrick, of Austin, TX. Following a private interment at West Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery, a memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 5296 Park Avenue, Memphis, TN on Friday, November 16, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Ernie’s name be made to Christ the King Lutheran School.
