Ernest Lubiani's Obituary
Ernie Lubiani, Jr. passed away peacefully on December 21, 2017 surrounded by his family that loved him and will so miss him. “Nonno” as he liked to be called by his six great-grandchildren and simply “Grandad” by his six grandchildren was a beloved husband, dad, son, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and Memphis in May Barbeque Judge! No one knew their way around cuts of pork and how to cook them better than he did beginning his career as a butcher with the old Weona Stores in Memphis and then as a salesperson and product manager for John Morrell Meats and Bryan Foods.The son of hard-working Italian immigrants, Ernest Sr. and Annie Bogni Lubiani, he was born on January 8th, 1929 and grew up in Memphis where he attended St. Mary’s Catholic school and Christian Brothers High School. Ernie was a diehard University of Memphis sports fan having had season football tickets for over 40 years. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Anita who passed away in 2006. In his later years he had the opportunity to fulfill his lifelong dream of visiting the “old country”, Italy and his family’s hometown. He is survived by his sister Catherine and his three children Michael, Theresa and her husband Andy, and Tony and his wife Rene’.Visitation will be at the Church of the Nativity in Bartlett on December 27th from 5-7 p.m. There will be a funeral mass the next day at 9 a.m. at Nativity. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery on Poplar Avenue.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of the Nativity Building Fund, 5955 St. Elmo Road, Bartlett, TN 38135.
