We need "Emilys" in Washington DC and in the capitols of every state government. Her light shined so brightly, it could knock you backwards. Emily had a way of making those around her laugh without even trying. Today there are so many names and events which I can't remember. However, there is one event involving sweet Emily that will forever be engraved in my memory. Of course, I don't recall the year but I am guessing it was most likely 1987,88, or 89. The Collierville Elementary teachers were sitting together at a big round table at the former Shelby County Teacher Retirement dinner. Someone really important must have been retiring that night because the tables and the room were packed. Emily had to go to the ladies room. When she tried to make her exit she and the male server were going in opposite directions but had to pass each other in a very tight spot going face to face - chest to chest. So tight was this "passing" that somehow Emily's belt got hung on the zipper of the male server's pants. Well, we know where this was going if either of them tried to reach down to "disconnect". So, after much ado, the two of them put their hands on each other's shoulders and bunny-hopped out of the room. The commotion at our table was not appreciated by those running the show up-front. However, it made for one of the funniest memories ever in the lives of those who witnessed up close.
Emily and Richard have let the love of Christ continue to shine through them these past few years. How blessed are all who have had the privilege to see them through this journey. "I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race;
I HAVE KEPT THE FAITH." II Timothy 4:7
Sincerely,
