Elsie Brown Starr's Obituary
Elsie Brown Starr, 88, passed away October 5, 2016 at Baptist Hospital after a short illness. She was born in Grenada, MS to John Meade and Wilma Doolittle Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milton E. Starr; and infant son, William Brown Starr. Mrs. Starr is survived by her daughter, Sylvia G. Starr. One of the first women to join the Lumbermen’s Club of Memphis, she purchased and sold hardwoods to companies all over the world. Being a lady of the south, her southern voice was recognized worldwide. She was a member of Kingsway Christian Church for over 60 years and was active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship Group. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until her service begins at 11 a.m. Friday, October 7 at Kingsway Christian Church in Schaeffer Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to either Kingsway Christian Church, 7887 Poplar Ave. Germantown, TN 38138 or Lumbermen’s Educational Foundation, 1564 Cranford Rd., Memphis, TN 38117.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis TN 38119.
