From the desk of Stormy MitchellDate: July 6, 2015Ella Mae “Pinky” Mitchell was born November 21, 1922 in Kosciusko MS, the daughter of James Carr King and Neva Lawrence King. On July 6, 2015.she peacefully met her Savior at the NHC Nursing Center of Franklin TN. She had spent the last year of residence at The Fountains of Franklin, where she flourished and enjoyed life. She had lived previously in Memphis TN since 1941. Ella Mae graduated from Kosciusko High School in 1941 and then moved to Memphis TN to pursue education and employment. She worked at the Army Depot with the 4th Ferrying Group shipping supplies to the troops fighting in World War II. There she met her future husband Doc Mitchell. They were married on February 17, 1945 and stayed faithfully married till his death on December 5, 1990. Ella Mae had a long and illustrious career of 35 years with the Memphis Board of Education with the Mental Health Department. She retired at the age of 80 in 2002.Ella Mae was an active and faithful member Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis TN for 69 years. There she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for 45 years in the 5 Year Old Department. She served faithfully under the Pastors of R. G Lee, Ramsey Pollard, Dr. Adrian Rodgers and Dr. Steve Gaines. She lived out her faith daily and shared the love of Jesus to all.Ella Mae’s favorite pastimes included reading, gardening and sewing but her favorite pastime was spent with her Grandkids. Always the devoted Mother, Wife, Sibling, Friend, Confidant, Prayer Warrior Ella Mae lived a life overflowing with Grace and Devotion. Her Servant’s Heart was the focal point of her life devoted to the love and care of others. Her hospitality was second to none. Her smile and laughter would light up any room or cheer up a friend in need. Her positive and contented spirit permeated all those who were fortunate to be in her presence. Her soft, gentle yet quick humor always left all asking for more time with her. Her generosity changed and touched many lives throughout her lifetime.Ella Mae is survived by her son, Stormy Mitchell of Franklin TN and a stepson Robert L. Mitchell of Memphis TN; A brother Gerald King of Dallas TX, and a sister Mary Nell Chipley of Germantown TN. Preceding her in death, siblings Henry Shedrick King, Robert King and Virginia Husdon; and parents James Carr King and Neva Lawrence King. She has 7 grandkids and 4 great grandkids, a large extended family and many dear friends. Services will be this Friday July 10, 2015 @ Memorial Park. Visitation begins at 1:30 PM and the Service at 2:30 pm for the Memphis folks. Rob Mullins of Cross Roads Baptist. Memphis TN will be officiating. Also, Monday July 13, 2015, 10:00 AM at The Fountains of Franklin we will have a memorial service for the Franklin folks. Steve Smith of Franklin TN will be officiating. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Cross Roads Church, Building Fund, PO Box 242 Eads, TN 38028Ella Mae Mitchell lived her entire life as one of a devoted, selfless servant. She raised the bar on what a woman should strive to be. She was an excellent example of a Proverbs 31 woman. Her legacy lives on.
