Elke began her life’s story in Hamburg, Germany, with her parents, Walter and Amanda Hennings. As a young lady, Elke worked and lived on a beloved dairy farm. She later transitioned to working at a children’s hospital, where her career crossed paths with her future husband, Joachim (Joe). Once married, Elke and Joe embarked on their brave journey to start a new life in America.
While starting and growing her family, Elke was always devoted, loving, and selfless. She taught herself to sew and became a master seamstress. Her cooking and baking skills were incomparable, bringing a taste of Germany to the States. Some of Elke’s many endeavors include embracing her creativity as an abstract artist, sculpturer, and photographer of nature. Above all, she made a profound impact on childrens’ lives and development, whom to this day continue to express their appreciation.
By honoring Elke’s wishes, a small private family service will be held for her inurnment and interment at Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of sending flowers, Elke asks that you please make a memorial contribution to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
