Elizabeth Smith Powers' Obituary
Elizabeth Smith Powers passed away on June 30 at the age of 91. Born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, Liz spent much of her childhood in Oklahoma and Kansas before moving to Memphis to attend Siena College. She later graduated from the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences with a degree in dental hygiene.
Her career as a dental hygienist lasted over sixty years, with Liz stubbornly refusing to retire until well into her eighties. She was proud of her reputation as a skilled practitioner whose first priority was the well-being of her patients, and she was an active member of both the Tennessee Dental Hygiene Association and the American Dental Hygiene Association.
Another career highlight was serving as the hygienist in the office of Dr. Winfield Dunn during his successful 1970 campaign for governor of Tennessee.
She leaves behind son Chris Powers, daughter Cathy Dice, grandson Collin Dice, and niece Lynn Johnson, all of Memphis.
A lifelong Catholic, Liz was a parishioner at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the animal rescue organization of your choice.
Visitation will be held from 1:00pm until 2:00pm on Friday July 7,2023, at Memorial Park Funeral Home 5668 Poplar Ave Memphis, TN with Funeral services starting at 2:00pm.
