Elizabeth Patzsch's Obituary
Elizabeth (Betty) Anderson Patzsch, 86, was born March 20, 1928 and passed away, Monday, June 30, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. A beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who leaves a brother, Guthrie Anderson (Jo); daughter, Sheryl Hyland; son, Dennis Patzsch (Beverly); a granddaughter, Diane Choate (Welby, Jr.) and two great grandchildren, Gillian “Gracie” and Welby Charles III. The old saying goes, “behind every great man is an even greater woman,” but in remembering my grandmother, I believe the saying should be, “beside every great man is the rib of completion, for it takes two great people merged in love and devotion to make one great.” My grandmother made us all great. She was the rib of completion for my grandfather whom she was married to for 63 years before his death in 2013. She was devoted to her family in every way. Spending time gardening, canning, and making jams and jellies taught us the value of hard work and wealth of frugality. Diligence spent with school projects and studies taught the value of an education. Her exuberant animation present every time she saw the youngest members of her family taught us to love big and out loud. Every time company came over, they knew to go to the carport door, where it would be opened with a warm smile, a hearty “come on in”, and a glass of cold southern style tea, teaching the true meaning of hospitality. So, as I watch the era of my grandparents come to a close, I pray the lessons I have learned from them both will be staples in all our lives. I pray we will not forget one of the greatest generations, who they were, and what they stood for, God, family, and country. GG, you may be gone, but you will never be forgotten. The memory of your smile will always keep us warm and filled with both yours and papaw’s love. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the service begins at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 3 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, 901-767-8930, “Behind the Stone Wall”.
