Elizabeth Josephine Owen Hollis' Obituary
Elizabeth Josephine Owen Hollis, age 90, passed away on May 4th, 2025, in Memphis, Tennessee. She was born on April 2nd, 1935, in Muenster, Texas.
Elizabeth dedicated her professional life to education well into her 60s, serving as a school teacher for many years, as well as an assistant principal at St. Michael's School in Memphis. She earned a Master's in Education from Memphis State University(UofM). Outside of her work, Elizabeth had a passion for the outdoors, sports, and found great joy in working in her flower beds. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Thomas L. Hollis of Memphis, Tennessee.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Agnes Owen and George Raymond Owen; her grandparents, Elizabeth Pautler and Joseph Pautler; and her siblings, Frankie Hermes, Georgia Henscheid, James Owen, Mary Trammell, Joyce Koelzer, Glenn Owen, and Michael Owen.
Elizabeth is survived by her loving sons and their wives: Jeff Hollis (Deedra) and Wiley Hood (Cathleen); her sisters-in-law, Barbara J. Hollis and Isabelle Hollis; her siblings, Margie Pagel, Lois Wray, Cheryl Hill, Rita Sue Patrick, and Karla Tweedie; her cherished grandchildren: Lauren McKinley Hollis, Stella Elizabeth Hollis, Lola Grace Hollis, Eva Rose Hollis, Ragan Elizabeth Hood-Morris (Coleman), Brannon Patrick Hood, and Lillian Grace Hood; and her great-grandchildren, Miller Morris and Rhodes Coleman Morris.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 13th, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Both will take place in the rotunda at the mausoleum in Memorial Park, Memphis, Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Madonna Learning Center in Germantown, Tennessee, or to a charity of your choice.
