Elizabeth Turnbull Grobmyer's Obituary
It is with sadness that the family of Elizabeth Legh Turnbull Grobmyer announces her passing on March 19, 2024, at the age of 83. Besty was born in Charlottesville, VA and moved to Memphis as she started elementary school. She went on to graduate from East High School in Memphis and earn her Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. She loyally supported patient care and her husband as he pursued his medical career in Nashville, Des Moines, and New Orleans. After their return to Memphis, she went on to serve as the business manager for his private surgical practice.
Betsy was the proud mother of three boys and logged countless hours supporting their schools and various sports teams. In the Memphis community, she volunteered with Subsidium, Inc. to assist with their mission of supporting the Memphis Oral School for the Deaf. In her free time, she enjoyed her garden club, baking, and knitting. With her knitting, she applied her skills to provide newborn blankets to Greenville’s Gift, a non-profit organization founded by her niece.
Betsy was preceded in death by her parents Randolph Beaton Turnbull and Celestine Walker Turnbull. She is survived by her brother Edward Randolph Turnbull (Suzanne); her husband for over 60 years Albert Joseph Grobmyer III; their three sons Albert Joseph Grobmyer IV (Melissa), Stephen Randolph Grobmyer (Toni Anne), Andrew Legh Grobmyer (Meggin); and five grandchildren Olivia, Albert V, Elizabeth, William, Margaret.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Albert and Elizabeth Grobmyer Endowed Scholarship at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis.
