Elizabeth Garrison's Obituary
ELIZABETH ANN GARRISON, 61, of Cordova, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 after a long and valiant fight with lung cancer. She will be missed by her husband of 28 years, Dennis King and son, Westley as well as brother, Anthony of Graham, NC; sister, Susan of Charleston, SC and her husband, Nolan Prestwood; nephews, Garrison Prestwood, Mike King and nieces, Ashley Holtzclaw and Melinda Allen. Ann was born in Graham, NC and graduated from UNCG. After a 25 year career in sales, she received her Master’s Degree in education from Christian Brothers University. She spent the last ten years as a 1st grade teacher in the Memphis City Schools and St. George’s Memphis campus. Teaching was her passion and she was inspired by her students hunger to learn and their successes after they left her tutelage. She also found time to serve multiple years on the board of the Memphis Youth Symphony and more recently as a member of the Foster Care Review Board. A long time Unitarian Universalist, she was one of the founder of Neshoba Unitarian Universalist Church and served in many different capacities. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, December 18 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and a memorial service will be held at a future date to be determined.
