Elizabeth Turpin Dean's Obituary
Elizabeth Turpin Dean, known widely in Memphis as Betty Dean, died on Monday, October 11, 2010 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis after an acute illness. She was 89. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery following the services. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Betty Dean was born in Memphis and lived here for the majority of her life, the daughter of Inman and Alyne Turpin. She was a graduate of Messick High School and attended Memphis State University before marriage. She was a lifetime member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church. Professionally, Betty spent 30 years as a medical office manager for two prominent Memphis surgeons, first for Dr. William David Dunavant for 12 years and then for Dr. Charles Frankum for 18 years before her retirement at age 69. After retirement, she served in volunteer work for Baptist Hospital for another ten years. She leaves three children, Carole Anne Norman of Maynardville, TN, Harvill F. Dean of New York City, and Gary Hunter Dean of Cordova, TN; five grandchildren, Hunter Dean of Atlanta, GA, Michael Dean of Memphis, Neil Norman of Apopka, FL, Captain David Norman of the U.S. Army, and Bethany Curtin of Corryton, TN, and four great-grandchildren.
