Eleanor Allen Wilson's Obituary
Eleanor Allen Wilson was born December 14, 1919 in Newport, Arkansas to Frank D. Allen of Jackson, Louisiana and Fanny Hinkle of Newport, Arkansas. Her grandparents were William Hinkle and Nell Foster of Newport, Arkansas and Charles Goodrich Allen and Lady Jane McLean of Jackson, Louisiana. Eleanor attended elementary school in Newport and Snowden School in Memphis, Tennessee. She graduated from Central High School in Memphis, and then attended James Lee Academy of Art in Memphis and Miller Hawkins Business School. Eleanor was employed at International Harvester before marrying Charles Foster Wilson on November 26, 1941. They moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi where both were employed by Anderson-Tully Lumber Company. They returned to Memphis in 1946. Eleanor was a member of Stage Set of Memphis Little Theatre, Green Thumb Garden Club, Athletic Club, Women’s Exchange, Memphis Symphony and Dixon/Brooks Art Gallery. In addition , every year she volunteered at The Wonder Series, a traveling, cultural exhibit from all areas of the world. Eleanor’s hobbies were traveling, mahjongg, tennis, gardening and party and duplicate bridge. She was an avid reader of romance novels, history and biographies. Eleanor and Charles traveled extensively through Europe, Asia, Australia, China and was able to travel to all 50 states with her husband’s lumber company affiliations. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Foster Wilson. She is survived by her daughter, Larane Wilson McKee (Harry) of Granbury, Texas, her son, Terry Allen Wilson of Germantown; grandchildren, Christopher Allen McKee (Lori) of Dallas, Texas, Victoria Eleanor McKee of Dallas, Texas, Monica Jane Burton (Derrick) of Bloomington, Illinois, Melanie Wilson Hodges (Matt) of Greenwood, Mississippi, Noah Wilson of Germantown, Tennessee and four great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119. “Celebrating Life… Behind the Stone Wall”
