Eleanor Irving Neal's Obituary
Eleanor Irving Neal, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior January 25, 2010. She was born in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, being the only daughter of a much respected family, Curtis and Ella Irving. Ellie graduated from Portland High School and was an excellent golfer during her college years. She along with her four brothers served in the U.S. Navy, except for a younger brother who died at the age of four. Ellie was a United States Navy Wave during WWII and the Korean War and this is where she met her beloved husband, William Leroy Neal (who died in 2006). While they were stationed in Washington, D.C. they worked with the team responsible for breaking the Japanese Diplomatic Code. They moved to Memphis and had three children, Ray Walker Neal (CeCe) of El Paso, TX; Donna Neal Wellford (Scott) of Memphis, and Bill Neal (Marlene) of Phoenix, AZ. Ellie “Nana” also leaves her grandchildren who she loved very much, Michael Walker Neal, Alexandria Santa Maria Neal, Peterson Neal Wellford, William Lewis Crew Wellford, and Curtis Lee Neal. Ellie was a wonderful mother and was involved many years with the PTA and other school matters. She was a longtime member of First Evangelical Church and loved all of her friends in “He Cares” and her friends at Independent Presbyterian Church, where she visited often on Sunday mornings with Donna and Scott. Ellie had End Stage Renal failure and for the past three years she has been going to dialysis three times a week where she enjoyed singing some of the old songs for the nurses. Nana is with our Lord Jesus and safe in His arms.
