Eleanor Jane McSwain's Obituary
Eleanor Jane McSwain, age 90, went home to her Savior on Monday, June 18, 2012. She was prede-ceased by her husband William B. McSwain, Sr. who passed away in 2009. She is survived by her children, William B. McSwain, Jr. (Georgia), Maria Burke (Jim), Bettye Jones (Clipper) and Mike McSwain (Jean); eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Her youngest daughter, Michelle Williams, passed away in 2006. Jane was born in Trezevant, TN on December 28, 1921. She was proud of her service in The United States Navy during WWII. Jane was recruited by the Office of Naval Intelligence and served in that capacity in Washington, D.C. from 1942-1945. After the war, she moved back to Tennessee where she met and married “Mac” McSwain and moved to Memphis. Jane took advantage of the GI Bill to continue her education while raising 5 young children. Jane worked in a number of businesses, most notably assisting her husband in establishing his own real estate development firm. She retired from Wallace Electric Co. in 1975. Jane considered her proudest accomplishment the rearing of her 5 children and helping to care for her grandchildren. Jane always had a great love of history and a strong sense of patriotism. She was a member of The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, The Huguenot Society, The National Society Daughters of 1812 and United Daughters of the Confederacy and was an avid reader and researcher. She was a member of Highland St. Church of Christ until unable to attend services. Jane lived her beliefs and was selfless in loving others. She was greatly loved and admired by all who knew her. Memorial Park Funeral Home has charge. Visitation will be Thursday, June 21, 5-7 p.m. Funeral will be Friday, June 22, 11:30 a.m. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the charity of your choice.
