Elbert Joe Edwards' Obituary
Elbert Joe Edwards, 96, of Southaven, MS, passed away on Saturday, January 30,2021. Elbert was born in Charlie, TX on July 30, 1924.
He joined the Army and served in WWII, he was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant. Elbert “Eddie” married the Love of his life, Lois Spitzer Edwards on September 9th,1948 in Denton, Texas. He was a man of many facets. A graduate of TX A & M, a high school Ag teacher, owned a creamery with his brothers, county superintendent of Clay County, TX.
A career in Management with Babson Brothers Dairy Farm Equipment company, brought Elbert and his family to Memphis, Tn in 1965. Due to an unfortunate accident which resulted in a broken femur and months of Hospital stays eliminated this career. He and Lois were longtime active members of Grace United Methodist Church of Whitehaven, TN. Elbert retired from Independent Life Insurance company, where he received many awards and loved his clients.
He is survived by his 5 children, all residing in the mid-south area, William Paul Edwards (Diane), Stanley Joe Edwards, Miles Clayton Edwards (Keneen), Carol Edwards Walker (preceded by David), and Jean Edwards Priest (Mark); eight grandchildren, Shad Edwards, Gabriel Edwards, Jacob Edwards, Jeremy Edwards, Heather Edwards, Andrew Edwards, Steven Priest, and Justin Priest; and twelve great grandchildren.
Elbert Edwards was preceded by his Wife of 67 years, Lois; and his loving brothers, Paul and Doyle Edwards.
Due to the families concern for everyone’s safety through this pandemic a private service will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
