Edward Eggleston Wilbourn Jr.'s Obituary
Edward Eggleston Wilbourn Jr., also known as “Buddy”, passed away on Sept. 1, 2023, at the age of 93. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Edward E Wilbourn Sr. and Maggie Bell Vaught. Two sisters, Annie Bee Earhart (Dudley) and Betty Lou Price (Max).
He is survived by his lovely bride of 67 years, Mary C. “Tac” Wilbourn, two children Mark E Wilbourn (Kymmie), and Leanne Price (Paul). Three grandchildren, Kathryn Babb, Brennan Wilbourn and Joseph Hopper. Two great-grandchildren, Dominic Chagolla and Arya Chagolla. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins whom he dearly loved.
Buddy was born in Memphis Tennessee, March 24, 1930. He graduated from Southside High School in 1948 where he was a football player and a Golden Gloves boxing champion. Buddy went on to serve in the US Army as a line man in Korea from 1951 to 1953. After his service he returned home and worked for Dupont Memphis for over 35 years. He was a 70-year member of the IBEW. After retirement from Dupont, he worked for Plantation Golf course. He was very enthusiastic about golf and enjoyed maintaining one of the courses he loved to play. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter.
Buddy was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church for over 50 years where he was a member of the choir during the early days of his membership. He enjoyed singing songs at family gatherings where is lovely wife and niece played the piano.
A visitation will be held at Ridgeway Baptist Church, 2500 Ridgeway Rd., Memphis TN 38119 on Tuesday Sept. 12, 2023 at 12 PM with a celebration of life services at 1 PM. Graveside services will follow at Memorial Park and fellowship at Ridgeway Baptist Church after.
