Edward Heinrich Menzer's Obituary
Eddie, from a young age, enjoyed and excelled in baseball and football while attending Christian Brothers High School championship teams. Following high school, he attended the University of Virginia where he continued to participate and excel in sports. After college, Eddie served in Vietnam as a Marine Pilot with F8 Crusader Squadrons and as a Forward Air Controller. He is the subject of a book, Hill 488 by Ray Hildreth, in which he rescued numerous soldiers on a hilltop with his leadership and flying skills. After Military service he served in the Marine Corps Reserves at Andrews Air Force Base flying F4’s, while commencing a 31 year career with United Airlines. He retired as Captain, flying B747’s. While stationed in the Washington, D.C. area, Eddie continued to enrich his life by obtaining an MBA from Georgetown University. He enjoyed sailing in the Chesapeake Bay, helping the elderly with Tax Preparation, taking up tennis and acknowledging his good life and family. Eddie lived an abounding life, as an athlete, Marine, airline pilot, father and husband.
