Edward Gonyea's Obituary
DR. EDWARD FRANCIS GONYEA was born January 14, 1931 to Dr. and Mrs. George H. Gonyea in Plattsburg, New York. He passed away February 26, 2013 at the Memphis Jewish Home. He was 81 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jerry Gonyea. Dr. Gonyea attended college and medical school at Georgetown University, was a retired professor of neurology at the University of Tennessee and former chief of neurology at the Veteran’s Hospital in Memphis. He was a member of Kiwanis and the American Academy of Neurology. During retirement, he traveled extensively to 24 countries and 27 baseball parks. Surviving family members include his wife of 46 years, Patricia Gonyea of Collierville, Tennessee; his children, Greg Gonyea (Kelly) of Austin, Texas, Bruce Gonyea (Fiona) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Lara Farnsworth (Eric) of Greenville, South Carolina, and Carol Wingfield (Ben) of Germantown, Tennessee; and eight grandchildren, Zachary Gonyea, Thomas and Sophie Gonyea, Samuel and Claire Farnsworth, and Abby, Matt, and Kate Wingfield. A Celebration of Dr. Gonyea’s life will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, March 1, with visitation one hour prior. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.Location: Garden of Serenity Arrow Color: Blue
