Edith Smith Sledge's Obituary
Edith Smith Sledge, 99, of Memphis, TN, passed away peacefully at Ave Maria Home on July 8, 2021.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, July 13 at 10:30 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 11:30 a.m. in the Fireside Chapel at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Entombment to follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Edith was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and great-aunt. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Victor M. Sledge, before his passing in 2006, and is survived by her son, Alan D. Sledge, of Memphis. She and her family lived in Kentucky, Missouri and Florida before settling back in their hometown of Memphis in 1972.
Edith began a lengthy career at the University of Health Science Center and retired in 1988. She enjoyed spending time with her family, travelling and sewing. She was a very talented organist and pianist, and played at several churches throughout her life, most recently at Bellevue Baptist Church. Edith was the daughter of Reverend and Mrs. William Lee Smith, and the sister of Stanley Smith, Frederick Smith, Wilton Smith, Doris Smith Inman, and Iva Smith Conner.
The family requests any memorials be sent to Bellevue Baptist Church, Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary or The Alzheimer’s Association of Tennessee.
