Earl Lipscomb Martin's Obituary
EARL LIPSCOMB MARTIN, SR., 100, of Memphis, TN, passed away on May 16, 2013. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Ramsey Martin in 2001, his brother, Joseph R. Martin and sister, Kathryn Martin Pinion. He was the son of William Joseph Martin and Louise Lipscomb Martin, born in Saulsbury, TN, May 20, 1912. He is survived by his son, Earl Lipscomb Martin, Jr. (Kay Foote) of Montgomery, AL and his daughter, May Ann Leggett (M.J. “Mike”) of Rosemark, TN. He leaves eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, two nephews and three nieces. He was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church for 62 years, serving as a deacon and trustee. He later moved his membership to First Baptist Church of Somerville, TN. His early years were spent in Somerville, TN, where he graduated from Fayette County High School. He served in the U.S. Army in the Aslatic Pacific Theater in the 1940’s. He worked at Anderson Clayton Cotton Company and Cook Industries until retirement, when he became a Realtor. Funeral services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Memorial Gardens on Sunday, May 19 at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. The family requests memorials be sent to the First Baptist Church of Somerville, TN or a charity of the donor’s choice.
