E. Elaine Coppock's Obituary
E. Elaine Coppock, 97, of Memphis, TN, passed away peacefully December 5, 2023, at Baptist Desoto Hospital in Desoto Co., MS.
She was born May 19, 1926 in Indianapolis, IN, the daughter of Eleanor E. Nay and Leslie C Gray of Scott Co. Indiana and had one brother, James Gray all of whom preceded her in death.
Elaine graduated from Butler University in 1947 and became a teacher in the Indianapolis School system.
She married Paul O. Coppock on June 23, 1973. She and Paul moved to Memphis, TN in 1984 where Elaine became a volunteer tutor for the Memphis Literacy Council adult learner program. She was also a member of the West Tennessee Historical Society and a Trustee of the Paul R. Coppock Scholarship in History and Journalism at the University of Memphis. Elaine was an avid reader and a lifelong student of all things scholarly.
She is survived by two nephews, Mark Gray and Brad Gray (Reta) of Indiana as well as four step-children, James Coppock (Linda) of Vermont, Esther Shaw (Brad) of Michigan, Gayle Hinebaugh (Tim) of Pennsylvania and Dianna Langan of Florida.
According to her wishes, her ashes will be interred with Paul O. Coppock at his gravesite in Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis, TN. A memorial service will be held at a future date to be determined at Lindenwood Christian Church, where Elaine was a long-time member.
