Rev. Dr. J. Thomas Cook's Obituary
Rev. Dr. J. Thomas Cook, 87, passed away February 15, 2018. He was born November 6, 1930 in Sarasota, FL to Jewel Fore and Wilbur Earl Cook. He was the nephew of Dr. and Mrs. Murphy Long. He married Sandra Hooper Cook on May 30, 1958 in Cookeville, TN. He is survived by his wife; children, Jeffery T. Cook (Lisa), John Thomas Cook II, and Peggie Cook Bobo (John); and grandchildren, Merrill, Eileen, Liz, Anderson, and Reese. Dr. Cook graduated from Jackson Central High School, Tennessee Technological University, Scarritt College, and Vanderbilt University. He served in churches in Middle Tennessee and West Tennessee and in the Conference Council Office. He served in the U.S. Navy Sea Bees. Dr. Cook enjoyed golf, woodworking, collecting nut crackers, traveling, and cooking. He was a member of the Memphis Conference of the United Methodist Church and Sons of the American Revolution. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. and funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 24 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests memorials be sent to Lakeshore Camp and Retreat Center, 1458 Pilot Knob, Eva, TN 38333.
