Doyle Duke's Obituary
Doyle Hampton Duke, 92, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 25, 2010. Mr. Duke was born on December 27, 1917 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas to Ollie Lee and Elba Elizabeth Duke. He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps for several years during the Great Depression. In 1953, he moved to Michigan and hauled steel for twenty-two years without an accident. He was a life-long Baptist. Mr. Duke was a loving father to his two daughters, Shirley Vescovo and Judy Galordi both of Germantown. He is survived by two son-in-laws, Paul Vescovo and Frank Galordi. He leaves his daughter Shirley’s three children, Debbie Mouyal, George Bearden, and Gregory Bearden. He was preceded in death by his parents Ollie Lee and Elba Elizabeth Duke, brothers, Vernon and Dewey Duke. Mr Duke leaves a dear longtime friend, Houston Smith, of Missouri, and a host of nieces and a nephew in Michigan. Since moving to Memphis, Mr. Duke lived at Heritage Place and Bright Glade Center. A special thank you to those who cared for Mr. Duke at Bright Glade, especially Mrs. Vicky McGee who did so much to add to Mr. Duke’s happiness each day. Visitation will be held from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 28 followed by the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home at 5668 Poplar Avenue.
