Douglass B. Pope, Jr.'s Obituary
Douglass Bennett Pope Jr. was born December 21,1931 in Little Rock Arkansas. His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, came and took him home to heaven on August 30, 2019 where he will live eternally with God, Jesus Christ and all of his loved ones in Christ.He leaves his wife of 60 years, Barbara Johnson Pope; four children, Gayle Pope Roberts, Glynda Pope Williams, and spouse, Keith; Douglass Bennett Pope, III and spouse, Karen; and DeAnn Pope Sellers and spouse, Brian. He also leaves 8 grandchildren and spouses and 11 great grandchildren. He loved his precious family.He grew up in Monticello Arkansas where he graduated from the University of Arkansas at Monticello and was a true razorback fan. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. His profession for 40 years was as an insurance auditor and he retired from Cigna Corporation before moving to Jackson Tn. He served as choir director and soloist in several mid-south churches. He was a member of Northside United Methodist Church where he taught bible classes and sang in the choir. He served in the Gideon Ministry and volunteered in Pastoral Care at Jackson Madison County General Hospital for 15 years. For the last 7 years he and his wife have lived at Brookdale Jackson Oaks enjoying senior living leading music programs, leading worship services and teaching bible classes. He will be greatly missed. 2 Corinthians 5:6-8 says, “ So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord”.Celebration of Life Service will be at Northside United Methodist Church, 2571 N. Highland Ave. Jackson Tn. 38305 at 11 a.m. on Saturday September 7, 2019 with visitation at 10 a.m. before the service. Burial service will be at 3 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis Tn. 38117.
