Douglas Earl Carver's Obituary
Douglas Earl Carver, age 74, went peacefully to heaven on May 11, 2022, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Doug was born March 9, 1948, in Memphis, Tennessee to Irene and Francis “Bo” Carver. He graduated from Oakhaven High School in 1967. After graduating high school, Doug joined the United States Navy. He served in the Navy until 1970 before joining the Tennessee National Guard (3-115 Field Artillery Memphis). He served in the National Guard until 1999 when he retired as a Warrant Officer III. Doug was employed by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office from 1970 to 1995, where he retired as a Captain. After retiring from the Sheriff’s Office, Doug began working for Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) as the Area Director over West Tennessee. Doug left TEMA in 1999 when he was hired as the Chief of Police for the Fayetteville Police Department in Fayetteville, TN. He retired from Fayetteville Police Department in 2013. Doug was an avid reader and loved entertaining people when he would pay tribute (in full costume) to Mark Twain. You could find him every Saturday in his chair with his pups, a good cigar and glass of Jameson cheering on his beloved Alabama Crimson Tide! Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Irene and Francis “Bo” Carver, brother, Walter “Bubba” Carver and sister-in-law, Patty Carver. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Virginia (Gini) Kimbrough Carver, and his 3 children: Curtis (Carrie Ann) of Grand Prairie, TX, Dana (Lori) of Puyallup, WA (both from previous marriage to Charlotte Blankenship Carver) and Sam-Elizabeth of Memphis. Doug also leaves behind 2 grandchildren, Daniel Aiden Carver and Liana Joelle Carver and a host of friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church (3863 Summer Ave. Memphis, TN 38122) or a charity of their choice. Visitation will be at 9:00 AM on May 17, 2022, with a memorial service following at 10:00 AM at Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee.
