Dorris Elaine Snow's Obituary
Dorris Elaine Snow of Lakeland, Tennessee peacefully transitioned from this life on Monday, April 22, 2024 at a hospice facility surrounded by close family and caregivers. She was 81 years old. Born in Martin, Tennessee on January 2, 1943 to Lilyann Opal Keathley and Charles Moore Wheeler, she moved to Memphis as a child and lived her entire life in Shelby County.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and is survived by her devoted husband, Steven Snow of Lakeland; a daughter, Millie Steele (Bruce) of Brighton, TN and a granddaughter, Courtney Farzam (Hamid) of Ft. Worth, TX; a son, Jeffrey White (Susan) and three granddaughters, Gabrielle, Lydia and Rosemary of Hamden, CT; a brother, David Stroble (June) of Magnolia, Tex; various nieces & nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
She attended Messick High School, graduating in 1961 and then matriculated at Memphis State University where she received a bachelor's and master's degree in education. She was a high school teacher for 33 years in the Memphis City School System (retiring in 1999) followed by a 12 year career as a SPED instructor at Hernando High School in Desoto County, MS.
In her retirement, she was active in New Neighbors, serving on the board of directors several years, and filled her life with running, competitive state championship-level tennis, book clubs, world travel, cooking, wine tasting, symphony concerts, and Orpheum musicals. In her infrequent inactive times she would derive infinite pleasure sitting on the back patio watching the birds feeding and bathing as the setting sun painted the sky teal and salmon colors. She was always in awe of the beauty found in nature. Her intellect and humor enhanced everyone who knew her and the void created by her absence will never be filled.
In short, she loved life and she lived love.
