Dorothy Walsh's Obituary
Dorothy M. Walsh, 89, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2013 in Palm Bay, Florida under the care of the William Childs Hospice House. Prior to her illness, Mrs. Walsh resided in her own home in Melbourne, Florida to which she relocated from Germantown, Tennessee. Mrs. Walsh was born on January 1, 1924 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and was predeceased in 1977 by her beloved husband Robert J. “Bob” Walsh, a retired Commander with the U.S. Navy Supply Corps who later became Manager of the Plough, Inc. Administrative-Research Building in Memphis. Dorothy and Bob were married in 1948 in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii after which she followed his various postings, including Naval Air Station Guantanamo Bay during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. Mrs. Walsh was a lifelong Catholic. Mrs. Walsh is survived by a daughter, Colleen (Dennis) Metzger of Niskayuna, New York and a son Ken (Lotten) Walsh of Palm Harbor, Florida. Mrs. Walsh is also survived by six grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Walsh of Franklin, Tennessee and Jacqueline, Christina, Caroline, Natalie and Gregory Metzger of Niskayuna, very caring nieces and nephews, and her longtime friend Alvina McCarthy and devoted caregiver Marilyn Stanek. Mrs. Walsh was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lillian Coghlan, her brother Bob Coghlan, and her sister Colleen Maxwell. Visitation will be 10:30am to 11:30am followed by funeral services on Tuesday September 24, 2013 at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Poplar Avenue in Memphis. Mrs. Walsh will be interred at Memphis National Cemetery where her husband Bob is buried.
