Dorothy Scott's Obituary
DOROTHY D. SCOTT, 84, passed into the presence of her Savior on Friday, December 11, 2009, at Baptist Hospital. Dorothy was born September 17, 1925, in Talboton, Georgia and was educated in Georgia and South Carolina. A faithful member of First Baptist Church for more than 60 years, Dorothy served as a pre-school Sunday School teacher, a Vacation Bible School teacher, and as a member of the Floral Committee for many years. In earlier years, she taught Laubach Literacy lessons to adult non-readers as a ministry through her church. Dorothy was employed in years past as a photography color artist. Using her artistic talents, she enjoyed oil painting, floral design, and decorative painting on tinware. Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband of 62 years, Burton Troy Scott, her son, David T. Scott (Marilynne) of Seattle, WA, her daughter, Gail Scott Poole (Richard) of Madison, MS, grandchildren Emily M. Scott, Patience A. Schell, Taylor A. Poole, and Claire Poole Alexander, and her beloved sister, Wynelle Kirkland. Funeral services will be in the Chapel of First Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 14th, with visitation afterward. The family will have a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Memphis, 200 E. Parkway N., Memphis, TN 38112.
