Dorothy "Dot" Samuels' Obituary
DOROTHY “DOT” BRUMMETT SAMUELS, 81, of Cordova, TN, passed away December 25, 2011. Dot was born and raised in Oxford, MS. She met Waymon “Freck” Samuels, from Water Valley, MS, and was married on August 2, 1947. Dot was retired from the Memphis City School System. She was a longtime member of Kensington Baptist Church, where she served as the Sunday school secretary. Most recently, she was a member of Gracewood Baptist Church. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her. She spent countless hours with her grandchildren and participated in attending school events, practices and games. She was known to always have a smile on her face and sweet disposition. The children and grandchildren have fond memories of her presence and her loving ways, selflessness and love. She was always able to recount every detail of their funny stories and growing up. She was fine example of a Christian lady. In her spare time, she was an avid stamp and coin collector. She is survived by two sons, Gary Samuels (Emily) of Cordova, TN, and Donald Samuels (Renee) of Collierville, TN. Four loving grandchildren, Matt Samuels (Elizabeth) of Hernando, MS, Brianne Samuels of Hernando, MS, Nicole Samuels Cabigao (Ray) of Memphis, TN and Tyler Samuels of Nashville, TN. She leaves a brother, Bobby Brummett (Barbara Rose) of Nesbit, MS. She leaves many life long friends from her church family and neighborhood. She also leaves a dedicated caregiver, Linda Lane of Memphis, TN, who gave her special attention, love and care. She was preceded in death by her husband, Freck Samuels, and sisters, Mary Brummett, and Helen Mathis. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2011 from 5-7 p.m., at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38119. The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 29, 2011, at 11:30 a.m., at Memorial Park Funeral Home, with burial following at Southwoods Cemetery on Hacks Cross Rd. Additionally, the family would like to thank Mary Gorman and Methodist Hospice of Memphis.
