Dorothy Wynne DeMassi's Obituary
Dorothy Wynne DeMassi passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on October 28, 2023 at Ave Maria Home in Bartlett, TN. Dorothy was born February 21, 1927 in Memphis, Tennessee, the daughter of Lee and Mary (Goldsby) Wynne.
Dorothy, or Dottie as she is known to many, was the beloved wife of 42 years of Anthony DeMassi prior to his death on August 5, 2003. She is a beloved daughter, cousin, aunt and friend. She is stepmother to Tony’s daughters Phyllis (Daniel, deceased) Hannan and Marietta (Steve) Sprinkel, who survive. She is also beloved grandmother to thirteen grandchildren, great grandmother to forty great grandchildren and great, great grandmother to fifty great, great grandchildren.
Dottie spent most of her working years at International Harvester where she met Tony. She and Tony were active in the International Harvester Managerial Club, St. Vincent DePaul and in their churches. Dottie was a two-time survivor of breast cancer and was active in the Reach to Recovery cancer program in the area.
Dottie and Tony spent their retirement years in Bartlett doing volunteer work and enjoying time with family. Dottie continued to do volunteer work after Tony’s death and spent time with her cousins, nieces and nephews and welcomed her grandchildren and great grandchildren to her home often over the past twenty years. The family would like to thank the staff at Ave Maria Home for their care and comfort for Dottie during the past two years.
We also thank Always Best Care and in particular, her caregiver, Winifred, for providing care for the past few years. Dottie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister, and several cousins, her son-in-law, Daniel Hannan and her great grandson, Ryan Hannan. In addition to her step children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren, Dottie is survived by her niece, Laurie Rhoades and her great nephew, Ken Gray, who was very close to Dottie’s heart.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 pm on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery with the funeral service at 2 pm. Burial will follow immediately after the service.
Donations may be made in Dottie’s memory to Reach to Recovery, The Society of St. Vincent DePaul of Memphis Inc. or the Ave Maria Home.
