Dorothy Lillian Chandler, 87, passed away on November 13, 2019 at her home in Dyersburg, TN.The funeral service will be held at the Riverside Chapel at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38119 on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 4:00 PM. Rev. Rick Flowers of Dallas, TX will be officiating. Visitation will be held at the Riverside Chapel at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Friday, November 15, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Burial will be at Peace Chapel Cemetery, 1426 Peace Chapel Rd, Decaturville, TN 38329 on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at 11:00 AM.Dorothy was born December 12, 1931 to John Robert Germany and Ida Stacy Patterson Germany in Talladega, AL. She married James Paul Chandler on February 12, 1956; they were married 46 years until his death March 31, 2002. She is survived by four children Byron (Karen) Chandler of Dyersburg, TN, Yvonne (Barry) Hardwick of Hendersonville, TN, Robert Chandler of Memphis, TN, Dixie (Alan) Burcham of Dyersburg, TN, ten grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.Dorothy is survived by four siblings: Wren Germany of Roseville, CA, Dixie Mitchell of Sherman, MS, J.D. Germany of West Shiloh, TN, and Doris Daniel of New Albany, MS.Dorothy was preceded in death by her father John Germany, her mother Stacy Germany, husband James Paul Chandler, and her brothers Tom Germany, Ewell Germany, and John Germany Junior.Dorothy worked as the church secretary at Bethel Church Ministries in Bartlett, TN serving four pastors and the church for 40 years. She loved spending time with family and friends. Dorothy enjoyed working puzzles, playing rummikube, dominos, and recently learned a card game called Golf. Dorothy would let her grandchildren win games, when they were very small, but as soon as they entered school, she felt they needed to win on their own. She had a little bit of a competitive streak, but mainly wanted her grandchildren to learn how to be good losers, as well as, good winners. The family would often tease Dorothy about different children and grandchildren being her favorite. She would always respond, saying, I have 4 favorite children and however many grandchildren she had at that time. Dorothy believed in being fair, and wanted each member of her family to know that she loved them all, equally.Dorothy was dearly loved by her family and friends, and will forever be missed.Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, 901-767-8930. “A Fitting Farewell For Everyone”.
