Dorothy Carkeet Brooks' Obituary
Dorothy Carkeet Brooks, 93, passed away June 23, 2012 at Kings Daughters and Sons in Bartlett, TN. Mrs. Brooks was Valedictorian of her graduating class at Tech High School. She was a member of Longstreet United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star. For many years she served as secretary for the Memphis Callers Workshop, and served on the council and various committees at the McWherter Senior Center, where she was Volunteer of the Year. She and her husband, Billy called for numerous square dance clubs throughout the Mid-South for many years. Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by her husband, William K. Brooks and is survived by her daughter, Gayle Newberry (James); sister, Norma Young (Jim); brother Stuart Eugene “Gene” Carkeet, Sr.; grandchildren, James K. Newberry (Marie) and Deborah Baker (Jason); and great grandchildren Kaelee Renee and Bryant Joel Baker. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, June 25 and the funeral service 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 26 all at Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial to follow at Southwoods Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be directed to Heartsong Church Children’s Ministries.
