Dorothy "Dot" Bendall Buhler's Obituary
Dorothy “Dot” Bendall Buhler of Memphis died at St. Francis Hospital on January 1, 2011. She was born in Sheffield, AL on January 23, 1918 to the late Houston Burnie, Sr. and Ruth Gertrude Painter Bendall. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Jean B. Buhler. Dot was employed by E.L. Mercer Company as a young woman. She often recalled the happy times and friendships established as she worked in downtown Memphis. For many years she assisted Jean in their business, Southern Tool. She later served as a greeter at the Colony Shop for 14 years retiring only when the store closed. Bridge, golf, cooking, entertaining, fashion, and homemaking were enjoyed by Dot. She was an excellent cook. Her church and Sunday school class at Germantown Baptist Church where she was a member were very important to her. For the past several years she attended Christ United Methodist Church while she enjoyed independent living at Town Village at Audubon Park. She was also a member of Colonial Country Club. Dot was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ruth B. Daniels, and her brothers, H.B. Bendall, Jr. and R. Harold Bendall. She leaves her brother, James William “Bill” Bendall (Ann), of Memphis. She was also very close to her nieces and nephews: William E. Daniels, Jr., (Peggy) of Marietta, GA, Elise B. Gilchrist (Ronnie) of Tuscumbia, AL, Robert H. Bendall, Sr. (Ruth Anne) of Birmingham, AL, Dorothy Jean Bendall (Don Patrick) of Birmingham, AL, and William Scott Bendall (Catherine) of Evanston, IL. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, January 4, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The funeral service will also be held 2:30 p.m., today, Tuesday, January 4, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Any memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
