Doris L. Robinson's Obituary
Doris Lou McGee Robinson, 94, of Bartlett, Tennessee, slipped quietly away into the presence of Jesus on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Doris was born May 14, 1931, in McNairy County, Tennessee. She was the last living child of 10 siblings born to Carl and Blanche McGee. At age 16, her mother died unexpectedly leaving Doris to care for her 3 younger brothers. At a country church revival, she spotted a young man from an adjoining county and announced to her friends, “I’m going to marry that boy!” That boy was Lester Robinson whom she married on June 8, 1951, and afterward moved to Memphis, Tennessee.
Doris was employed by Sears at their Crosstown store for over a decade where she worked as a salesclerk in various departments, while finally settling in Men’s Furnishings. She loved helping men match up their shirts, ties and slacks. After Sears, she worked for Goldsmith’s Department Store in the Raleigh Springs Mall before retiring. She loved working in the yard, their large garden, flower beds, and canning homegrown fruits and vegetables. She also liked to keep a clean car, and she would sometimes be found washing and waxing them after Lester left for work! Doris loved to sew and do alternations for family and friends, but nothing brought her more joy than to be around her grandchildren.
Doris had a caring heart and would be among the first to reach out to someone in need. She would buy lunch for a coworker who didn’t have money that day or take a gallon jug of cold water to a worker mowing a field behind the house. Thinking that a bowl of cold cereal was not enough, while still working and even into retirement, she would rise before anyone else and cook a large breakfast as often as possible, concerned that anyone would leave for work or school “hungry”. During Lester’s final months, which required several extended hospital stays, Doris refused to leave his side.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Lester Robinson, parents Carl and Blanche McGee, brothers Lawrence C., Everett, Melvin, Herbert, Ernest and Bennie McGee, sisters Lessie B. Leonard, Lois McCann, and Joyce Brooks. She has one surviving sister-in-law, Alinee McGee. She also leaves behind a son, James Robinson (Jennifer), grandchildren Andrew, Lorianne and Carrie; daughter Darla Lovett, grandchildren Caleb and Kaylee, and was preceded in death by son-in-law Jimmy Lovett. She also had many nieces and nephews.
Doris was a long-time member of Bellevue Baptist Church where she grew in her walk with Jesus under the preaching of Dr. Adrian Rogers and Dr. Steve Gaines. She found joy in supporting Love Worth Finding Ministries which carries on the legacy of Dr. Rogers through broadcast and print ministry.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation for the care she received from the staff at Kings Daughters and Sons Home and Amedisys Hospice.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Love Worth Finding Ministries or Bellevue Baptist Church.
