Doris Burton's Obituary
Doris Burton, 86, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Doris was a faithful member of Gateway Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She also worked with the Appalachian Outreach program for 18 years.
She was a Tennessee Baptist Camper on Mission and awarded the National Volunteer of the Year in 2013. Doris cherished her time at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, volunteering weekly for over 18 years in the Child Life Department. She was also a member of the St. Jude Auxiliary and received Volunteer of the Year in 2005.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Kathleen Holt, and brother, Buddy Hill. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Raymond Burton, one son, Edgar Allen (Gracie), and her stepchildren, Matthew Burton, Mark Burton, Mitchell Burton (Ann), and Lori Sullivan (Tim), nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother John Hill (Julie).
The visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the service time at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Gateway Baptist Church, 1915 Rosemark Road, Atoka, TN 38004. A private interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her memory.
