Dora Kramer's Obituary
Dora Jeanette “Jan” Kramer, 74, of Cordova, TN, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2015 in Memphis, TN with family by her side. She was the widow of the late John G. Kramer of Memphis, TN. They shared 30 years of marriage together, two daughters, four grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Jan was born in Carrollton, MS; she was the third daughter of Thomas and Susie Moreland. She graduated in 1959 from Messick High School in Memphis, TN. Jan started working for PicPac grocery store not long after high school, but from there she went on to work with the Seven Eleven convenience store chain and then later for Mapco Express where she managed two stores in Memphis, TN. After leaving Mapco she was hired on at Easy-Way Foods in the main distribution office in downtown Memphis where she stayed for 5 years, but in June of 1998 Jan received a call about a job that would later become her second home. She was hired on at Morgan Keegan/Raymond James and there she stayed for 17 years. She made many friends, some even became like family. If you didn’t catch Jan talking about her family then she was most likely to be talking about work, and all of the daily task she did, but mostly the conversations her and her coworkers had each day. Jan loved her job and the people she worked with. However, Jan’s first true love was her family. Jan is survived by her oldest daughter Regina Keister of Memphis, TN, and youngest daughter Beth Ross of Cordova, TN. Four grandchildren Danielle Brown of Olive Branch, MS, Dana Carter-Prestage of Cordova, TN, David Davis of Cordova, TN, and Christopher Keister of Memphis, TN. Jan also has seven great-grandchildren, Brandon, Johnathan, Dakota, Hailey, J.J., Isabel and Hattie, and anyone who knew Jan, knew this is where her heart belonged each and every day and these were the reasons she kept going. If she wasn’t at home curled up in her chair with a book a cup of coffee and the chihuahua Coco by her side then you could surely find her out somewhere with her family. From soccer games, to ballet recitals to bowling tournaments, to hockey games, Meme as she was known to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and so many others could always be found not far from her babies as she called them, it’s what made her the happiest. Seeing another generation grow, and learn, and be taught what family and love is all about. Jan is preceded in death by her husband John Kramer, her parents Thomas and Susie Moreland of New Albany, MS, her oldest sister Susie Shelton of New Albany, MS, second oldest sister Sarah Thompson of Grenada, MS and her youngest sister Sherry Hendon of Terry, MS. There will be a memorial service held on Saturday June 27, 2015 at 2pm and Holy Cross Episcopal Church located at 8230 Highway 178 Olive Branch, MS 38654. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to one of the following charities in Mrs. Kramer’s name.
